C1 - An Integrated Model of Care for Opioid Use Disorder Among Women & Pregnant Persons

Presentation Summary: With OUD becoming more prevalent and the ripple effect of negative impacts on the mother, the child, and beyond, medical providers and allied professionals must be engaged and knowledgeable on both the signs of OUD and the availability of treatment for OUD in pregnant persons. Workshop attendees will learn about the prevalence of OUD among women, the legal issues faced by women with OUD and barriers to care, pre-natal and post-natal assessments and considerations.

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, participants will:
  • Identify the barriers that SUD-affected pregnant persons face that may limit them from seeking and accepting care. Participants will then identify ways to break down those barriers for clients and ultimately assist clients in receiving MAT and other types of treatment for SUD while pregnant.
  • Assess evidence-based pre- and post-natal assessments to identify needs and optimize care for SUD-affected pregnant persons and their newborns/children. Participants will utilize these assessments to identify individuals affected by SUD, treat them in a manner that reduces SUD-associated stigmas, and work with the individual to provide a linkage to care.
  • Explain the growing impact of SUD especially on underserved communities and identify how a coordinated, multidisciplinary team can provide the resources and tools for SUD-impacted individuals and the larger community. Participants will be able to make a case for these needed resources.
