Presentation Summary: The use of “safe supplies" is an evidenced-based practice to reduce substance use harm, but in the United States, access is not routinely available in opioid treatment programs (OTPs). The attitudes of patients in OTPs towards safe supplies are unknown. We examined attitudes toward safe supplies among 711 patients at low barrier OTPs in CT using a Likert-type scale. Generally, we found favorable attitudes towards a variety of safe supplies.
Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this activity, participants will:
Recall the rationale for harm reduction supplies at OTPs, particularly those utilizing methadone.
Identify potential barriers to PWUDs receiving methadone maintenance willingness to access harm reduction supplies at an OTP.
Explain patient attitudes to accessing harm reduction supplies at an OTP and develop an understanding of the implications of the data.
