Presentation Summary: Families with a parent receiving methadone treatment are at risk for opioid misuse/overdose, but are rarely the target of interventions. Families Facing the Future (FFF) is an established family-based intervention shown to effectively reduce illicit drug use among methadone patients and their children. Despite FFF’s effectiveness, uptake among methadone providers has been low due to implementation barriers. This presentation describes a 3-year effort to adapt/scale FFF, creating a modified version that is more feasible for methadone clinics to implement. Wider adoption of FFF should help reduce illicit drug use among these families and lower overdose deaths among this high-risk group.
Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this activity, participants will:
Describe the impact that opioid addiction/methadone treatment can have on patients' families and the need for family-based interventions
Describe how evidence-based interventions can be adapted without violating the core elements of the original intervention.
Describe patient and provider preferences for receiving/delivering interventions (e.g., treatment adjuncts) in a methadone clinic setting.
