President, NJATOD
New Jersey Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence
Maiysha Ware has served on several city and state-wide committees which greatly influenced regulatory policy regarding opioid use disorder (OUD) treatment in the State of New Jersey. She has served on state-wide committees including the Professional Advisory Committee and subcommittees, advising the NJ Department of Human Services, Division of Addiction Services on best practices in Opioid Treatment Programs (OTPs). Ms. Ware has authored several white papers which have influenced major changes in the state, including the reduction of overburdensome requirements for Medical Directors of OTP's and workforce development. Over the years, Ms. Ware has presented at several state-wide and regional conferences, providing education on medication assisted treatments. She is a tireless advocate and valued member of the New Jersey Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence. Ms. Ware has been instrumental in reducing stigma and in streamlining state regulations. She speaks at length of the importance and efficacy of medication assisted treatment and has long advocated for meaningful reduction in unnecessary or unneeded regulatory oversight in light of the current opioid epidemic. Her most impactful change of recent years has been to successfully advocate for APN exceptions and to reduce the minimum requirements for licensed physicians to serve as medical director in OTPs. Prior to this, NJ had very stringent regulations in place, but has since issued a blanket waiver due to Ms. Ware's advocacy.
