Dr. Clemons currently serves as the Nevada Medicaid Medical Director. She is a board-certified pediatrician, with more than twenty years’ experience practicing medicine. Since her short Medicaid term as medical director, she has served on a number of national and state advisory boards and committees, including the Maternal Child Health Advisory Board. She was recently awarded a statewide initiative by the National Governor’s Association, affording her the opportunity to meet with the US Secretary of Health. She provides clinical expertise for multiple divisions under the Department of Health and Human Services, as well as legislators and policy writers on statutes clinical implications. She also serves as a liaison between the medical community and government sector.
Prior to her Medicaid position her experiences extended to the various sectors of medicine, from serving at FQHC’s, IHS, academia, and telehealth medicine to serving Nevada, administratively and clinically, as the Medical Director and Senior Physician at Southern Nevada Early Intervention Services. Her practical learning and development stemmed from early teachings from boarding school at Phillips Academy, (Andover, MA). She went on to attain a BS in Chemistry and Mathematics from Spelman College, followed by a MD from medical school at Morehouse School of Medicine. She completed her internship and residency at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland, (one of two ACS designated pediatrics level I trauma centers in CA and ranked among the top 25 in 9 out of 10 hospital specialties in the US News and World Report for best pediatric hospital listings.) After residency she completed a fellowship in multicultural health.
Non-traditional highlighted medical experiences include appearing on “The Oprah Winfrey show”, “It’s a Miracle”, interviews with Dr. Drew and the evening news. She has written articles for magazines and authored and published a couple of books. Go to DrRclemons.com to find out more.
Dr. Clemons acknowledges that her most rewarding and humbling job ever is being a proud and dedicated mother of two children, who she appreciates greatly for changing her and life for the better.
