Dr. Miriam Adelson is an influential philanthropist and medical expert in internal medicine, emergency medicine, and addiction medicine. While at Rockefeller in the mid-1980s, Dr. Adelson began to develop a unique specialty in the areas of chemical dependency and drug addiction. This has become her humanitarian endeavor and has led to international recognition in the fight against drugs. She has authored numerous scientific papers about the effects of drug addiction.
Dr. Miriam Adelson is a leading physician and expert in drug addiction. Wanting to help the community where she resides, she opened the Dr. Miriam and Sheldon G. Adelson Clinic for Drug Abuse Treatment and Research in Tel Aviv Medical Center in 1993 and then a similar clinic in Las Vegas in 2000, of which she continues to sponsor and manage both clinics.
Dr. Adelson's philanthropic endeavors have been recognized with multiple honorary doctorate degrees and prestigious awards. Through the Adelson family and medical research foundations, she has made a profound impact, donating hundreds of millions of dollars to various causes and organizations, thereby significantly influencing the global philanthropic landscape.
She is a proud awardee of the Nyswander/Dole (Marie) Award. In recognition of her efforts, she received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2018 from former U.S. President Donald J. Trump. The Medal of Freedom is the highest honor bestowed upon a civilian in the United States.
She served on the Board of Trustees of the University of Southern California and was at the Board of Trustees of Rockefeller University in New York City, where she served as a guest investigator.
Dr. Adelson's personal life is as remarkable as her professional achievements. She is a devoted mother to four children and was married to Sheldon G. Adelson, the love of her life for three decades until his unfortunate passing in early 2021. Balancing her time between the United States and Israel, she exemplifies the importance of family and personal commitments alongside her professional responsibilities.
