Substance Use Disorder Program Coordinator
Urban Strategies Council
Oakland, California
Teri Carlyle is the Director of Finance and Operations at Urban Strategies Council where she has been employed for the past 15 years and although Director of Finance is her official title, her real love for her work at the organization comes through when she’s hosting and facilitating her workshops on “Real Talk Conversations: Erasing the Stigma of Opioid/Substance Use Disorder in the Black Community” and Mental Health Mondays. After losing her cousin to mental illness, homelessness and substance use disorder, Teri has made it her life’s mission to open up the dialogue in order to erase the stigma attached to both Substance Use Disorder and Mental Illness. Teri’s main purpose for doing this work is to assist African Americans in unveiling the mask, erasing the stigma and seeking the assistance and support that they need in order to heal the community.
