Icro Maremmani, MD is now an Adjunct Professor of Addiction Medicine at the University of Pisa and the Saint Camillus International University of Health and Medical Sciences (UniCamillus) in Rome, Italy, EU, where he is Director of the Master of the 2nd level in Addiction Medicine. Formerly, now retired, was the chief of the Dual Disorder Unit at Santa Chiara University Hospital in Pisa and a full professor of Psychiatry.
His expertise is agonist opioid treatment of heroin addicts, especially patients with dual disorders.
He is a founding member and past president of SITD (Italian Society of Addiction Medicine), founding member and president of EUROPAD (European Opiate Treatment Association) and WFTOD (World Federation for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence, NGO with Special Consultative Status with United Nations Economic and Social Council - ECOSOC) and founding member and Vice-President of the World Association on Dual Disorders (WADD). He is editor-in-chief of Heroin Addiction and Related Clinical Problems, Journal of Clinical Medicine, Section of Mental Health, and Italian Journal of the Addictions.
