Presentation Summary: This presentation examines the guiding principles of a comprehensive medication assisted treatment (MAT) program located at the Rhode Island Department of Corrections, a national model that provides patient-centered care and reduces mortality among formerly incarcerated individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD). The model was developed and is operated in collaboration with CODAC Behavioral Healthcare, a non-profit that provides treatment services, and Brown University. We will also discuss models of correctional-located MAT programs and examine the role of patient-centered principles within these programs. Participants will leave with a better understanding of how correctional settings can deliver evidence-based care for OUD.
