Presentation Summary: Anyone working in the field of behavioral health can be affected by stress and compassion fatigue. This is especially true for substance abuse professionals who specialize in the treatment of opioid addiction. Caregivers often neglect their own needs and have difficulty coping with the potential stressors resulting from the multiple demands that are specific to treating patients with opioid use disorders. All too often, stress that remains unaddressed can interfere with treatment provision, quality of care and can have a negative impact on the quality of the therapeutic relationship. This presentation offers guidance for clinicians.
